Anna Mennorrow Hamilton - October 15, 1866 to April 6, 1958

Anna Mennorrow Hamilton 1866–1958

Anna was born near Cedar City to Paiute parents. When she was a toddler, her parents gave her to John and Mary Hamilton in exchange for a horse. Her mother must have felt sad about that, because she visited often, bringing gifts of pine nuts.
One day, as she was herding cows, Anna decided to leave her life with the Hamiltons. She walked all the way to Cedar City and then traveled to Salt Lake City. There she became a maid in wealthy homes, including the McCune Mansion. Ever restless, Anna she spent some years in San Francisco and Seattle. When she returned to Utah, she worked as a hospital cook.
“Anna was a wonderful lovely person, loved to do for others,” an acquaintance wrote of her. She was buried at Heber City “by a dear foster sister.”
