From the plaque....
He and Wife, Jane Taylor Nelson and 12 children left Mr. Pisgah, May 8, 1850. Arriving in Salt Lake Valley Sept. 9, and continued on to Alpine Sept. 13, 1850. WHile living at Mt. Pisgah, Edmond and most of the family were stricken with chills and fever, from which he never fully recovered. He died Dec. 13, 1850 and was buried Dec. 15 on a little knoll north of Alpine. Hundreds have since been buried here but Edmond Nelson was the first.
