Came to Utah in 1848 with Heber C. Kimball Company, arriving 24 September 1848. He was a captain of 10. His 4 children and his 3 wives were with him wife Lovina (Buckwalter), wife Lois (Judd), wife Caroline (Conrad). After arriving in Salt lake, he went back and returned heading up the Benjamin Thomas Mitchell Company, arriving 5 August 1854. In this company was Mrs. Susannah Houston Matlock and her 4 year old son. She was a widow he later married in 1857.
